Let’s Rethink Goal Setting… Today!

Our youngest daughter.

She’d worked for five long weeks.
Cleaning rabbit hutches.
Helping Mummy with tidying the home.
Filling a glass jar with coins.

Dreaming of the bright, shiny electronic typewriter in the shop window.

And finally…
She held it in her hands.

But that’s when the tears came.

Every leader or financial planner I’ve ever coached… knows that feeling.

The moment when the thing you worked so hard for… feels strangely empty once it’s yours.

That moment comes to us all… especially in leadership.
And life calls us all to leadership at some time.

Because somewhere along the way…
*the Goal replaced the Purpose*

We spend our lives chasing bright, shiny things – titles, numbers, sales, possessions, applause – only to find that the pleasure of possession… fades faster than the thrill of pursuit.

Wouldn’t it be life-affirming… if our goals could flow from something deeper – a purpose so alive that even the journey feels like joy.

Wouldn’t work take on more meaning and power… if we knew – in the very core of us – that fulfilment comes not from GETTING more…
but from BECOMING more.

My first business mentor, Andrew, once read this youngest-daughter story. And promptly emptied his wardrobe.
Armani suits, impressive labels… all gone to charity.

He smiled and said,
“I finally realised how much of my life I’d spent dressing and acting for other people’s approval.”

And our daughter’s bright shiny electronic thingy?
She put it back in the box.
And never touched it again.
Not once.

So here’s the question:

What seemingly essential goal are you about to trade your precious, fragile, gloriously possible days for?

And when you finally get there… will the pleasure of possession ever match the joy of anticipation?

Being crystal clear about the answer to that question…
That’s the Soul Millionaire way.
